Fuze & Initiator Assembly

A fuze has one job. It does it once, at the right moment.

Fuzes and initiators combine fine mechanics, energetic material and electronics in one safety-critical part. There is little tolerance for assembly errors in components like these. We build assembly systems that keep energetic handling inside guarded stations, verify every insertion by force and position, and stop the part the moment a value leaves its window. Each unit leaves with a complete process record. Nothing is assumed.

What you get

From raw body to finished assembly.
One team answers for all of it.

01

Safety

Energetic components stay inside guarded stations. Operators load and unload. The machine does the rest.

02

Verification

Every press-fit, crimp and weld is checked against its force and travel curve. Out-of-window parts are rejected at the station.

03

Traceability

Each fuze is linked to its components, parameters and test results. The record exists before anyone asks for it.

04

Precision

High system repeatability helps keep tolerance stacks within specification on small components.

High Speed Assembly & Inspection Cells

Okumat

Small components, tight positions, no room for guesswork. OKUMAT sets every movement by cam, so each cycle follows the same path, with a repeatability below 0.05 mm. Up to 24 stations around one central drive leave room to verify each step before the part moves on. For assemblies with few individual parts there is the compact Modular Solution, for longer process chains the linear Transfer Solution.

Discover all High Speed Assembly Systems

Up to 300 parts a minute, and every one of them exactly where it belongs. Explore the high-speed assembly systems that turn many small components into finished products at a pace most lines never reach.

Custom Solutions & Retrofit

Custom Machines

A safety-critical part leaves no room for a compromise machine. When no standard machine fits, we build yours from scratch: concept first, then the material flow layout and the control concept, ending in a machine cut to your product and your process. It is assembled from proven building blocks such as axis modules and automation components, so even a one-off machine reaches high availability and runs for years. If a proven platform can carry your process, see System Solutions.

Our Process

One team from first sketch to a line that runs.

A process that has proven itself. One team plans, engineers and commissions your machine, and hands it over turnkey, ready to run, in the shortest possible time.

01

Planning

Concept, material flow and scope, defined with you before the first drawing is released.

02

Engineering

Mechanics, controls and process, designed as one system and simulated before the build.

03

Realization

Build, installation and commissioning at your plant, then handed over ready to run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which processes can run on an OKUMAT?

Press-fitting, screwing, crimping, riveting, welding, dispensing, marking, camera inspection and leak or function testing. Assembly and verification run on the same machine, in the same cycle.

How many stations can an OKUMAT carry?

8, 12, 16 or 24 stations, arranged around one of three centrally driven base units. The base unit is chosen to fit the part and the process sequence.

When do you recommend a custom machine?

When no standard platform fits your part, your process or your cycle time. Often these are the processes that set a manufacturer apart from the competition.

discuss your unique requirements.

How is every unit verified?

Inspection is part of the process, not a step after it. Each unit is checked in the line, and the result is stored against the part. Nothing moves to the next station without a pass.

What traceability do you provide?

Every part and batch is documented through the process: which station, which parameters, which result. Traceability is configured to your requirements, down to part and batch level.

Which process capability do you design for?

Critical features are designed for a machine capability index (Cmk) of 1.67 or higher. We prove it in a documented capability study with your parts before the machine ships. Process capability (Cpk of 1.33 or higher) is then confirmed in series production on your floor.

Why use cam-driven motion instead of servo axes?

Cams couple every station mechanically to one drive. Each cycle repeats exactly, even at high rates, with a repeatability below 50 µm. Where a process needs flexible motion, we add servo axes at that station.

How do the cells protect people around heavy and energetic parts?

Operators stay outside the working area. Interlocked access, safety-rated speed and position monitoring and separated loading zones are designed to ISO 10218-2:2025 and ISO 13849-1. The robot works. People supervise.

How do you reduce the risk of a one-off machine?

We build from proven modules such as axis units, machining units and automation components. Critical processes are simulated and trialed before the build, so a one-off machine still reaches series availability.

How do you protect confidential projects?

Confidentiality starts before the first drawing: a non-disclosure agreement, access on a need-to-know basis and separated project areas in our facility. Your parts, data and drawings stay inside the project team.

discuss your unique requirements.

Can you test our parts before we place an order?

Yes. For critical joining, machining or inspection steps, we run feasibility trials with your sample parts. You see the result before you commit to the machine.

How long does a project take from order to acceptance?

Systems based on our standard platforms typically take six to nine months. Complex lines with machining, assembly and inspection take nine to fourteen months. The binding schedule is part of every offer.

How does a project run from first request to acceptance?

Planning, engineering, realization, service. We define requirements and scope up front, build and test the system, and hand it over with acceptance testing. Timelines depend on the system and are agreed per project.
